AK STAR & Science Assessments
Alaska’s state assessments measure student progress in ELA and Mathematics (Grades 3–9) and Science (Grades 5, 8, and 10). Please review our notification letter for more information here.
The testing schedule for AK STAR and AK Science Assessments at Chinook is:
- March 31st→ 5th & 8th grades take Science Assessment
- April 2nd & 3rd→3rd- 8th take AK STAR ELA
- April 6th & 7th→3rd- 8th take AK STAR Math
- If you know your child will be gone for any of the days, please get in touch with Christina.
Parents have the right to make educational decisions for their child, including whether to participate in statewide testing.

After years of careful financial decisions, the District is entering FY27 on stronger footing. The proposed budget invests in students by reducing class sizes across all grade levels, adding 30 teaching positions, restoring key programs like elementary instrumental music, and expanding learning supports districtwide.
